Communities of Interest

Mature Communities of Interest are an important, practical, and invaluable asset for the State of Ohio.  They foster an environment of networking and collaboration to support open and energetic dialogue leading to the discovery of statewide IT opportunities without boundaries.  Community of Interest participants contribute by sharing their ideas, strategize together, look for ways to leverage IT investment opportunities, and learn from each others experiences. The result is a more effective State government with less redundancy and waste.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has adopted Communities of Interests as one of its key contributions toward Ohio’s execution of IT Governance.  OIT through the Enterprise Planning section of the Investment and Governance Division is home to the Community of Interest Consultants.  The consultants are responsible for the coordination and facilitation of the IT communities of interest, along with investment analysis responsibilities for OIT.

Ohio’s Cabinet level agencies and larger boards and commissions have been organized along a mission/service centric structure.  Currently there are six (6) communities each having its own OIT analyst assigned to facilitate collaborative activities and to promote networking between agencies.

Communities of Interest play a significant role in Ohio’s Statewide IT Strategic Plan.  Recognizing value of teamwork and practicing collaborative behaviors are essential to fulfill the State’s role in supporting its citizens and its businesses efficiently and effectively.

Most recently, the December 2006 meetings of the community of interest were completed.  The purpose of these meetings were to provide a forum for interagency focus on collaboration and community-wide  initiatives, continuing support for Agency IT Strategic Planning and Agency IT Investment selection, and to demonstrate collaborative tools that are currently deployed.
