Transforming the Way Ohio Does PCs |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
An enterprise approach to the states considerable information technology (IT) investments provides better opportunities to capitalize on the states combined buying power and to reduce or eliminate unnecessary duplication of effort. More than 100 state agencies maintained a combined inventory of approximately 60,000 personal computers spread across more than nine different brands and numerous configurations. The Ohio Office of Information Technology (OIT) assessed the states current personal computer environment and determined that more stable and consistent desktop and laptop hardware platforms statewide would better position the state overall and its agencies specifically to leverage combined buying power and lower the overall total cost of desktop ownership. |

| Because the personal computer is fundamental to state government IT, and because this project affects all of state government, it was critical that agencies worked together to shape this project. Representatives from 24 state agencies joined to lend their experience and expertise to recommend standards, a standards revision methodology, and terms for a master procurement vehicle. The participation of agencies in moving the state forward in how it invests in IT as an enterprise is essential to ensuring that specific needs are understood and taken into account. more | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
