The IT Law & Policy section provides a number of law and policy related services, with a primary focus on IT in the Ohio Revised Code and Ohio Administrative Code. The section is responsible for the development and filing of administrative rules established by the state chief information officer. The section's responsibilities include the following: |

Draft IT administrative rules and manage the rulemaking process for the Office of Information Technology; |
||||||||||||||||||||
Conduct preliminary legal reviews of proposed policies; |
||||||||||||||||||||
| Review and analyze proposed IT related legislation for the Office of Information Technology; | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Coordinate publication of the Office of Information Technology's enterprise procedures; | ||||||||||||||||||||
Conduct policy research on state government use and acquisition of information technology; and |
||||||||||||||||||||
Research and draft Ohio's responses to major national surveys, such as the National Association of State Chief Information Officers' Compendium of Digital Government in the States and the Center for Digital Government’s Digital State Survey. |

| Security of Sensitive Information | ||||||||||||||||||||
| A multi-agency working group has formed to recommend an Ohio administrative rule that would set standards for the protection of sensitive data that state agencies hold. The stated goal of the working group is to develop a rule, consistent with Ohio Revised Code Chapters 1306 and 1347, that is effective in terms of security, workable, and not so onerous that it becomes counter-productive. more... | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Publication of Office of Information Technology Enterprise Procedures | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Various OIT programs create procedures for customer agencies to use when they obtain an OIT service. This project entails creating for these procedures a standard format, a catalog, and a central Web page where the procedures can be found. Although each OIT program area will still develop the content of their procedures, OIT's customer agencies will have a one-stop shop to find procedures. | ||||||||||||||||||||
