Network Connectivity Request Information

Service rates may be requested from a network engineer by calling
the Network Operations Center at 614-644-0701 or by sending an email
to ocssc@ohio.gov.
Requests can also be faxed to 614-644-3349. Please include the following
in your quote request: data line speed (56K, T1, Ethernet, Token
Ring, ATM), network equipment needed (router & CSU/DSU), network
protocols to be routed (TCP/IP, Novell, etc.), and the service location.
Network Installation
The current service interval is approximately 5-6 weeks. Included
in this is a 4-5 week service interval for SOMACS data line lead
time. Please contact the Network Operations Center for the current
service interval time. Orders for ten or more connections will be
treated as a project and coordinated with the customer. The installation
interval for projects may be affected by the scope and complexity
of the project.
Network Equipment Upgrades
The network equipment we install for your order is the latest available
and will meet your network needs at the time of installation. However,
as it is with personal computers, the network equipment may not
satisfy your network requirements forever. This network equipment
will need to be upgraded every two to three years. The network equipment
service rates do not provide for equipment upgrades. Equipment upgrades
necessitated by customer location technology changes or changing
needs within the Network will be the responsibility of the customer.
Please plan in your budget to upgrade network equipment every two
to three years.
Customers have the option of purchasing network equipment or requesting that OIT Unified Network Services purchase the customers network equipment. Network equipment ordered through Unified Network Services will be invoiced to the customer for the entire cost after installation. Unified Network Services will purchase the equipment maintenance and invoice the customer for those costs. The network equipment is part of the network connectivity provided by Unified Network Services. The network equipment will remain the property of Unified Network Services. At the end of the network equipment usefulness, typically three to five years, and at the time of replacement (upgrade), we may transfer the network equipment ownership to the customer. We are prohibited from transferring equipment that has a monetary value to the customer.
Requested Network Changes
Network related issues and outages receive priority over requested
changes to existing network services and installations. Network
changes are typically requested to modify access lists or routing
tables. Though we will always try to honor requests for changes
in network services immediately, network issues or execution of
scheduled work does not always permit this. Please request network
changes 24 hours in advance. This provides an opportunity for a
network engineer to thoroughly review network service requests before
implementing. Please remember that a simple requested change for
one customer may have far reaching effects on the network in general
and must be closely examined. Please request network changes by
